Breastfeeding is the most natural thing in the world but sometimes it really doesn't come so naturally to some.

It is a true skill which needs to be learnt and practiced by both mum and baby. It is something which requires support and constant encouragement from those around mum and baby.

AND

Breastfeeding is hard work!

But if you learn about it, prepare for it, ask for help early on (and ongoing if needed) it can become easier and it can be something you absolutely love doing.

I think for me it was a combination of things but second time around I was had a complete different mindset. I was prepared and personally I experienced a completely different journey with my daughter.

Whoever is going through a rough time and reading this - just know the best thing you can provide your baby is love - and that is not measured in mls 🌸

When your baby is born, you soon learn that your breasts may leak if you are breastfeeding.

However, you might not have expected to see a milky substance coming from your newborn’s nipples!

This phenomenon is commonly called witch’s milk (or neonatal galactorrhea).

Although it can be startling to see a milky discharge coming from your baby’s nipples, there’s likely no reason to be overly concerned. If you do notice this it is worth mentioning to your healthcare provider.

Did you know you are amazing!

No matter if you have breastfed for one day, a week, a month, or a year +……you are amazing.

If you have chosen not to breastfed for whatever reason because it makes sense for your family – you are also amazing.

This post from @carlywad has really stuck with me.

“It’s been a week since Charlie was born, he is the greatest blessing and one of the greatest lessons for me as a mom. I had all these hopes and dreams that postpartum would be easier this time. But I still ache. I’m healing. I’m tried.

Bella was such a colicky newborn. She cried and cried for months. Threw up. Had gas pains. I breastfed for months because that’s what I was told was “best”. When I changed Bella to formula, she was a new, happy little baby.

There is such a stigma about breastfeeding. If you don’t do it, you don’t care about your children’s health. You don’t love your kids enough. You’re being selfish. You just aren’t being a good enough mom. Honestly, I know my comments will prob be full of people telling me all sorts of things I could have/should have done to make it work for us.

But the one huge thing I found this time is that I made a really hard decision within myself as a mom to listen to my gut about what was best for my child. And you know what...it worked. He is soooo happy and that is all that matters.”

Did you take a postpartum selfie?

I actually wish I did but to be quite honest I was in such a shock with my emergency c-sections that I didn’t realise I hadn’t used the bathroom in 24 hours because I had a catheter in and I had no idea 😳😅 I was also very paranoid (and slightly dramatic) when I could not feel my legs for a while, so that last thing on my mind was a selfie.
